DUWO has sent 250 tenants at Science Park a letter that they have to leave Science Park at 1 July 2010 because the Amsterdam University College needs the apartments for their own students. The situation is almost similar like last year when also about 250 tenants were requested to move out. Last year, DUWO offered everybody that couldn’t find a room an apartment of DUWO elsewhere in town. In the opinion of Duwoners, DUWO cannot finish a contract without offering a replacement room. This follows from the Dutch law, in which there are very strict rules about temporary contracts. Even if you have signed a letter that you agree with moving out of your room, you still have good changes that DUWO has to offer you another room. We recommend everybody that has been asked to move out, to look around for a new room because a new room from DUWO is never guaranteed. But, we think it is wise to ask DUWO for a replacement room and to go to WijksteunpuntWonen (WSW) at Wijttenbachstraat 34 for free help and advice. Various tenants of Sciencepark have now a lawyer for free to help them. If you need help or further information you can also contact us.
